My Unexpected Journey: A Breech Birth Story

Parents admire newborn wrapped in blanket in hospital. Mother and father, in blue scrubs, gaze lovingly at baby. Warm, joyful moment.
The arrival of our daughter was one of the most profound experiences of our lives.

I'm excited to share my birth story with you, fellow mamas and mamas-to-be. While it didn't go according to plan, our journey reminds us that every birth is unique and beautiful in its own way.

Throughout my pregnancy, I envisioned a natural birth. I worked with midwives, maintained an active lifestyle, and felt blessed with an easy pregnancy. Little did I know that at 36 weeks, an ultrasound would reveal my baby was breech, turning my world upside down.

Facing the Unexpected

Learning about my breech baby was a shock. I cried, I worried, and I frantically tried every method to flip her:

  • Acupuncture and moxibustion

  • Specialized massage therapy

  • Webster Technique chiropractic care

Despite my efforts, my stubborn little one refused to budge. Looking back, I realize I was so focused on controlling the situation that I missed out on enjoying those precious final weeks of pregnancy.

Letting Go and Finding Peace

After much prayer and discussion with my husband, we decided against an External Cephalic Version (ECV). This decision, while difficult, brought me peace. It was a turning point in accepting that sometimes, we need to trust the journey rather than try to control it.

The Birth Day Arrives

At 40 weeks, with our baby still breech, we prepared for a C-section. I was terrified, having never undergone surgery before. But my incredible medical team, including compassionate anesthesiologists and a supportive doctor and midwife, helped ease my fears.

The moment I felt the pressure of my baby being born was indescribable. Hearing her first cry filled me with relief and joy. Though we couldn't do immediate skin-to-skin due to her needing oxygen, holding her on my chest soon after was pure bliss.

Recovery and Reflection

The recovery process was challenging, but it taught me resilience. My husband was my rock, caring for both of us with love and dedication.

Looking back, I realize this experience has made me stronger and better equipped to support other women. As my mom wisely pointed out, facing this challenge allows me to relate to and help others in similar situations.
